A ball of twine

When I was a little kid, I found a piece of string one day.

I picked it up, looked it over, and started to throw it away,

But, I kept it, because it was red and white...stripe

I thought, if I could just find enough, I might fly a kite.

As time went by, I found string here and there.

Feed and flour sacks, and you might say most everywhere.

Some was colored, but most of the string was white.

Well I got to thinking one night,

That it would be great to wind my pieces of string into a ball.

As time went by, I begin to tell about my project to all.

And the first thing you knew,

My friends were helping me gather string too.

It wasn't long before the ball of string grew and grew.

There were many, many pieces tied together...not just a few.

Then the time came to build a kite.

I asked my dad to help me, so it would go high in flight.

The time came for the maiden flight,

And as the wind caught it just right,

I let out the string, so our kite could soar high.

As i did, I thought of others as their pieces of string slipped by.

Everything worked, because the kite flew high.

But, sometimes things just don't work out, no matter how hard you try.

Therefore, always remember as time goes by and in the end,

Life is a lot easier when you have a friend.
